Pukekura Park

In case you haven't seen color in a while, I'm sharing some from my part of the world.

This is one of a few shags (cormorants) that make nests in the trees around the lake in the park.

This is Boris the Eel. He gets lots of attention.

sunlit

I don't usually think of taking photos (other than the sky) when the sun is going down but thought some of these were pretty in the last light of the day.

traditional English cottage garden

I had a picture in my mind of how my garden would turn out--tall flowers in the middle, shorter ones around the edges with groups of flowers on one side, mixed varieties on the other. I like organized things, that's just how I roll. But, we all know about the best laid plans. And with the seeds from former gardens (that I didn't consider a possibility after all these years) it came out looking more like a traditional English cottage garden. I can live with that.

windblown and WATW

I found my windblown flowers a bit artistic this week.

east end beach

While waiting for Hubby to get a haircut, I wandered down to the sea to see what there was to see.

This greater black-back gull dropped several shellfish onto the beach until they broke open.

At one point, another gull tried to steal the meal, but was quite unsuccessful.

more garden color

Both Hubby and I noticed that the dark tulips were the last to bloom and hang on until the last minute.

Savage Club

I have to say that moving to a country of the British Empire has opened my eyes to many things that were not a part of American culture. If you have some time to kill, click here for my other blog and find 'cultural differences' in the sidebar.

One of the many things that I've notice here and there are signs for 'Savage Club'--mostly on repurposed churches or houses. Hubby recently pointed out one in a nearby town and I finally got around to checking them out. The truth about the Savage Club came as quite a surprise--definitely not what I expected because the first thing I thought of  was 'Fight Club.'

It seems that there are many mild, artistic souls that wanted a place to gather for fellowship and support that started over 150 years ago. You can click here for more information and history.

busy little critter

I have some huge patches of fittonia that started out a little 3x3 inch pot a few years ago. The bees just love it and flit around it all day long. I enjoy listening to them and watching them so intent on their work.

Rain cloud on Mt Taranaki and WATW

I zoomed in on the mountain from the house with my Nikon camera  and was surprised with this shot.

So, what does your world look like? I showed you mine, now show us yours!

indoor geranium

I am quite rubbish at growing indoor flowers. I kill them with kindness, well, actually, with water. But this little geranium I bought from a local charity looked so cute in the ceramic water can and I worked really hard at not drowning it. I am very pleased with the lovely blossom and hope the other bud opens as well.

dogwood in new zealand

I fell in love with dogwood trees when I lived in Georgia. Rumor had it that they grew in New Zealand, so I kept my eye open for them. I finally got to see one in full bloom during the Fringe Festival at the Regional Council!
